Such a dad thing to do (although I probably would too)

I peeved over at the Peevery about dropping my breakfast and it totally reminded me of something funny. I was with Stephen and Ben at this fancy ice cream place in the U district. (I think it is the U District, I'm not really sure where the lines are drawn... maybe it is actually Greenwood or Greenlake... how have I lived here 6 years and I still don't get that??) (According to their own website it is Wallingford.) There was a dad and two daughters sitting at a little table near us. The little girl did the thing that if I was her age would've totally made me cry... she took a big lick of her cone and proceeded to knock the scoop onto the floor. The dad bent over and picked it up. He took some napkins out of the dispenser and wiped it off and then plopped it back on her cone. He kind of mashed it in to make sure it didn't happen again and she resumed consumption. I don't blame the dad. I totally would've done the same thing. :)

Random

I know it is just me, but I'm vaguely fascinated by the fact that the arrow on the compass that is next to my phone changes direction when I pick up my phone. Phone in the cradle the red arrow is pointed at 20 degrees. Phone out of the cradle and the arrow points at 315 degrees. Probably some magnet in the phone. I coulda been a physicist. :)

I crack myself up.

I was just sitting on my sofa making this weird throaty growly noise until I totally busted up laughing. It is a good thing I live alone sometimes. :)

Unrelated, although I hate the Olympics (I know how UnAmerican of me I confess) I do kind of like the Visa commercials that are going on right now about memorable Olympic moments like Kerri Strug's vault and Derek Redmond getting helped through his run by his father after tearing a hamstring. (I had to Wikipedia that one). They make me all weepy. (or maybe this cold makes me weepy. Oh who am I kidding, most things make me weepy because I'm a weepy weeper who weeps.)

Adventures in Theatah

Tonight Stephen and I went to see Aida at some theater in Issaquah. The whole trip was an adventure.

To start, Stephen's car is in the shop. Doing some research I discovered we could get to Issaquah via bus, but we wouldn't be able to get home once the show was done since the buses don't run that late out there. Undaunted, Stephen asked his mom for her car and we had a way! But we had to pick up the car. We left the restaurant and missed the buses I had schedules for so we grabbed a different bus. The bus we grabbed was the meandering wandering sort that heads through downtown SSSSLLLOOOOWWWWLLLLLYYYY. The driver didn't seem to be a regular driver. At one point she was going so slowly I could've gotten out and walked faster. And I still have a limp!

Shortly after we got on a young heavyish woman got on and sat in front of us. She was on the aisle seat and her bag was near the window. This gentleman got on and asked her to slide over (even though there were plenty of open seats). He then began rambling to her. I didn't catch all of it but at some point he said he was a vetran. (He was also a drunk - or was today because I could smell it on him). He wasn't getting any response from her so he turned to Stephen and I. He shook Stephen's hand and maybe mine. And then he started chatting with us. He asked if we were married and Stephen replied not yet. And then he continued chatting. He kept going on about how he liked big women and how big women are great and will really treat you right. He asked when we were getting married and we both replied we didn't know yet. He was going on and on extolling the virtues and sadly for Stephen and the young woman next to him, I encouraged it. I kept replying to his weird comments. We big women are good at taking care of our men you know. ;) Eventually Stephen changed the subject and he turned to the woman next to him. He was leaning into her and chatting her up. At a later stop, another woman got on. He was up in a shot and chatting with the new chick. It was quite comical the whole thing.

I had never seen Aida before. I will never ever have to see it again. It was long as hell and BORING. I thought I was going to die the first half. Its only redeeming quality was the 2nd half was very short. There was this one part which was like something out of a movie... The scene is critical. All the cast is silent on stage and the main character is starting to sing very low and the supporting cast are all quiet and 'crying' and you hear it... deedeedeedee deedeedeedee deedee. A ringtone. I couldn't help it. I started laughing. And once I started I had a hard time stopping. It was awful and hysterical at the same time. Stephen caught on and started laughing too. So here we are in the middle seats laughing our asses off. The worst part.. it took the cell phone FOREVER to stop ringing. It rang at least 5 - 6 times. It took all my will power to stop laughing. Stephen couldn't even do that. One other thing about Aida... the costumes. They were terrible. The soldiers were wearing what looked like an Abercrombie & Bitch gay would wear when he was dressing up trying to be a leather guy. In one scene they are all wearing what look like Oakley sunglasses. I couldn't figure out why they would be wearing those in ancient Egypt.

As Mickey is my witness... I shall never go back again!

So I got my new fancy pants wireless modem in the campus mail today. I have just finished setting it up. Oh holy hell is it fast! I can't believe how fast everything is. I can't believe what I used to put up with! :) So I am now a part of the 21st century. I am not even sure how to cope. I could download episodes of The Office if I want to! :)

In other news I couldn't give blood yet again today due to low iron.

And I saw the blind literally leading the blind today. While I was walking to try to give blood there was a man with the dark glasses and service dog and a woman holding his arm and she had a cane in the other hand. At one point one stopped and touched the face of the other.

Welcome to the Family!

At 8:30 this morning someone knocked at my door. It was the postman. He brought me a box with a new friend in it! :)
Icy is an iPenguin, similar to the iDog that my niece has. I can plug him into Pica (the iPod) and he dances and the lights on his belly light and he is a speaker. It is all very cute. I have been collecting penguins since I was a kid, and my mom sent him to me. Sometimes she comes through with a good package. Who knew? :)

The library cops

I cut my finger on the way to my office the other morning. I took a small bit of skin off and it bled a little. It bled onto the cover of the library book I was reading as I was walking to work. Now the library cops have my dna. They'll know where to find me. I'm "In the System"!

Also, I found a spot on the back of my had. I'm pretty sure it is where "they" injected a mind control drug. But they cleverly disguised it to look like an ingrown hair.

April Fool's Denied

I have put off posting because I was going to post this long April Fools Joke post, but then when I thought about it, I felt bad because I didn't want to trick anyone. But it would've been very clever. :)

I was going to post that I got fired from my job because of a post on the Peevery. Actually the original plan was to post that I got fired for sexual harrassment because I hit on the former WC in a more obvious way. :) But then little hands believed that y'all wouldn't believe that one so I hit upon fired for my blog.

Last night I went to a coworker's for a party. He's a new prof from England. He's really sweet and he has this AMAZING house he and his husband just bought. I have some serious house envy. That modern clean lines crap has nothing on interesting rooms and unique shapes. Apparently the house was used for apartments because there are 4 (yes 4) kitchenettes in the house. And yet somehow there are only 3 bathrooms. Very odd that. It has amazing views of the water and is somewhere in the neighborhood of 3800 square feet. I'm considering asking them if they want to adopt me. :D I'd kill to live in the attic room. It has a very unique shape and all these built in drawers and closets and such. Apparently it was once the maid's quarters. Even the ugly rose wall paper is cool and interesting. I drank 4 glasses of white wine which made me discover that white wine does not agree with me. (Or it could've been the little smokies, but either way, I had an upset stomach all night last night). I am very proud of myself for even going. Y'all know how I am about stuff like that. I talked to a number of faculty members that I knew. All in all a good time.

The week was fairly uneventful. I spent a lot of time on the sofa. :) Ooh yeah, I bought a buttload of GF food yesterday. I had a nice ham & turkey & cheddar on foccacia for lunch. Very nice that was. :)
