Worst radio commercial ever.

I was listening to the radio this morning and I heard a commercial that was just horrifying. It was a commercial for an at home DNA testing kit. Now I don't really have an issue with one of those. Whatever. My horror was at the ad itself. A woman is going on and on about how her husband doesn't believe that their child is his despite her assurances that the kid is. So she got the test and proved it was. Here's my issue... well there are several. 1 - These people obviously need therapy. Either she cheated on him or they had the kid before they were married (and she cheated on him) or he's a total control freak. In any case... it doesn't sound like a healthy stable marriage and a DNA test won't really help it. 2 - What advertising firm thought this was the best way to go? And for that matter what marketing department thought an ad was even necessary. It isn't like it is a product that most people will use. Know your audience. It is a niche product at best. Unless they were trying to hit the men since they played it during the Adam Corolla Show. Maybe it was trying to appeal to all those guys who listen and who aren't sure if they are their baby daddies. I don't know.

Why does the ad imply to you that they possibly had the kid before marriage?

That was one of my theories on why the husband didn't believe the kid was his. Either she cheated on him whilst married. She cheated on him before they got married (or maybe not cheated ... maybe they weren't together the whole time or had an open relationship or whatever). Or he's a total jackass.

They're trying to reach the Montel/ Jerry Springer/ Maury crowd. You know, the folks who would go on the "It's not my baby" show, but this way you can just do the test at home. After all, they only have room for so many people on those shows. I'm sure there are a lot more who call in, but aren't selected to be on the show and get the free DNA test.
