Excessive Hype

I've just spent the evening watching Napoleon Dynamite and Garden State. I have wanted to see Garden State since I first saw previews for it. Napoleon Dynamite I mostly didn't want to see but everyone said that it was oh so funny. It was hysterical. Blah blah blah. Either I'm in a really crappy mood and no amount of comedy can pull me out of it (entirely possible actually) or I was expecting more. I didn't find most of it funny at all. There were 2 or 3 laugh out loud parts, but as a whole... not so much. I will say I did love the gangsta cousins. Garden State I liked, but I think I needed to pay more attention to it. I was watching it while doing something else and I think I may have missed something about it.

Um, I want to see both of those movies. If we weren't going to the zoo in less than ten hours I'd be so mad at you.

I have Garden State on my Netflix queue but I haven't even heard about the other....I have been out of the movie loop for some time now....sad to say.

That's funny, I rented those two movies at the same time, too. You should give ND another chance when you're in a better mood.

I can certainly appreciate where you are coming from. The first time I saw both of those, I only laughed a few times and thought there were decent second run flicks, but not great.
However, after seeing them both again [in theatres] I liked them a lot more. You have to maintain low expectations and focus on the flow. They're both low-key fare without a lot of pomp and circumstance to "entertain".

Don't listen to CL. I was in a good mood when I watched ND and I didn't think it was that great either. Having already seen GS, I rented ND with The Anchorman.
