So for the 2nd time in less than 2 months, I've been malwared. I was using google (so fuck you too google!) to search for the difference between apple juice and apple cider. The first result came back and I click it not thinking. Holy fuck, it is a porn site. So I back out. It wasn't a porn site actually, it was the malware downloader. So now I'm done. I've joined the techies jumping on the firefox bandwagon. Hypothetically this will relieve me of my malware problem.

Are you running Windows XP? With Service Pack 2?
I've never had malware installed and I visit all manner of crap - although I don't recall the last time I hit the underside of porn-net.
What is malware? I've never heard that term. I'm guessing it's when you get redirected to porn?
I too have not had any problems but I update frequently and keep my virus defs up as well. I use the firewall built into Windows XP SP2 and I am sure my cable provider has a firewall of some sort as well.
Firefox is okay but it seems like a few things don't show up correctly. My dad has Safari and Firefox on his Mac and neither of them work very well with my online school...
I think I said fuck you to service pack 2 also because it was going to take something like 55 hours (according to the downloader) using my dial up. And that's just crazyness. I have a firewall on there. With hmmm... I can't think of who it is right now. But my virus ware and firewall is through the same company.
Malware is like spyware but worse. Spyware just seems to cheeck out what you're doing. Malware actually hijacks your browser redirecting you to them. So in this case, once I got it I'd try to go to google, and get their site instead. I would try to go to anything else and kept getting their site. It also keeps offering to download a service for me and I can't tell it no, I don't want it. I have to reboot immediately otherwise it downloads and keeps popping up every 2 - 3 minutes.
Also Service pack 2 goes back to my whole issue with Microsoft in general. Why put out a product that's crap and requires all these updates regularly? Why not just build a product, test the shit out of it, hiring hackers if you must to test the shit out of it and put out a solid product?
